Tri-County Urban League President and CEO to receive Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Award

PEORIA, Ill., March 27, 2015 - Laraine E. Bryson, President and CEO of the Tri-County Urban League in Peoria, Illinois will be honored by Toastmasters District 54 for her achievements in the field of communication and leadership.

Bryson is currently working with the organization's board of directors and staff and the Honorable Ray LaHood to launch the Tri-County Urban League's 50th Anniversary Celebration Campaign, and to catapult its successes into the next half century. "The Tri-County Urban League aims to achieve the kind of prosperity that will break down barriers for disadvantaged people all over the Central Illinois area, thereby empowering communities and forever changing lives," says Bryson.

The Urban League is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit agency, dedicated to improving educational, social and economic opportunities for individuals in Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford and McLean counties.

Born and raised in Peoria, Ill., Bryson earned her Bachelor of Science from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University School of Law in St. Louis, Mo. As president and CEO of the Tri-County (Peoria) Urban League, Bryson is responsible for the overall administrative operation of the agency including the coordination of all programs, projects, fiscal operations, and is its chief spokesperson.

Toastmasters' Communication and Leadership Award is presented to an individual in the community who has demonstrated outstanding communication and leadership achievements.

"Supported by the Peoria community and its civic leaders for more than 22 years, Bryson continues to transform our Central Illinois area into a vibrant space where everyone who wants a job or a better education can attain it", affirms Toastmasters Division C Governor Marguerite Ross.

Bryson will be honored at the Toastmasters District 54 Spring Conference- Believe It and Achieve It! - on Saturday, April 18 at the Peoria Civic Center.
